Nikey's TPLO surgery

Well time for an update....I am back at work (ick), Nikey was fine first day alone...Proz just stole baking pan out of sink...not tooo bad....I am posting a couple more pix, as it seems boring without! Proz is outside sniffing the air, and Nikey is in his crate sleeping with conehead on! He is starting to get a lot more energy, and I am afraid soon he might try stairs....Wednesday staples come out and another shot of cort...ah, I ain't going to look it up! anyways, the two pictures are of Nikey looking so cute on futon, and one of Nikey devouring the pig's ear Uncle Leroy brought in (thank you uncle leroy)...

Yikes Friday already! Hardly feels like I have had 6 days off! Nikey is doing much better, this morning he played with goose! Yesterday Proz and I went to the dog park, and had a lovely walk with Riley 1 1/2 year old black lab. She was pretty happy, Nikey was good, he was in his pen when I left (open) but I blocked off the room. Today we will go again, and I will try leaving both of them too! Everything seems good! He is walking/limping on the leg, walks the same way as before surgery, so hard to tell anything, altho he is putting weight on it. He seems to have energy when he gets up and then he needs to nap...although that is what he was like before! Proz is Proz..although quiet right now!

forgot to add about Aunt Cindy coming over with Shilo and Pita last night. Good of her to stop in! and she brought dinner, yeah Aunt Cindy! She brought Shilo round back first to meet Proz (and left old Pita in the car), then Shilo came in, but Nikey was gated with his conehead. Too funny, he wanted to see his girlfriend from the summer, and she was afraid of him (conehead), anyways, took it off, and all was good. Pita came in later, Pita is a quiet older boy. We had dinner, and they all lay down and it was quiet! Good to have company (and yes, Uncle Bruce had come earlier and Proz got her big ass walk down by the river). I didn't get any pictures though...post some later I guess

Well, it is one whole week! They must have had a good time last night, cause we all slept in till 11:00!!!! Then I had to rush to get ready to go to vet. We went for his first (of six) shot of cartophen. Well, down the ramp in the back he went, and then he jumped right back on to the porch!!! Thanks ever so much to Gary who controlled Nikey...mom will have to use halti from now on! Got to the vet's, he was so happy, ran back with the vet tech, and then when he came out, he didn't want to leave! Still likes it there which is a good thing! Came home, he is toast again, as is his sister, I hope to go outside and rake some leaves....hopefully that small "jump" didn't hurt him, and this is only week one!!! long seven more to go!

The redness is gone, and he seems to be getting better! He gets up, is excited, eats, goes outside does his business and comes back in and passes out! Works for me! Proz is upstairs sleeping too, managed to sleep in till 7:15, when she came down to the futon, and then slept till 8:00! not bad I'll take it! Now that they are sleeping, I should get busy and do some cleaning!

Last night we had Leroy's chicken and spagehetti, wow they were some excited!!! This morning we are back to boring kibble!

still ick......a quick update, Bram came for dinner, and Proz only had inside games....I will take her tomorrow morning, and afternoon when Uncle bruce comes. I changed the room around, and this is a picture of Proz telling Nikey "its okay, go in the crate, here I'll help you"...

Slept in..(sort of) finally figured out why Proz was getting up at the same time as usual......my clock radio alarm was still set!!! My home mail has been down, and I couldn't get the laptop working...yikes!

Gary came by at lunch with some chicken that Leroy had cooked for Nikey over the weekend, what a sweet guy (chicken breasts no less...they are looking tempting for me!)

I finally decided to try putting him in his crate (oops no pix) with conehead on...an adventure! Then I gave him a bone marrow with peanut butter (and still conehead)...mm, not really a good idea. The the mailman came so that drove Proz nuts, and poor Nikey was just sitting in the crate. So I let him out, I think I will crate HER and just leave him in the room. There isn't much in the room, just lets him lie down on futon, and he won't break out (especially if she is crated).

All for now, I'll have to get some energy and take some more pictures.

Well, it was, you can't tell from the picture, but trust me! You can see Nikey's ramp there, that is also for the pickup truck...it is a bit heavy...four 2 x 6s....6 ft long....had to work for the truck though!

You'll also note the leaves....seems they all came down in the last two days (hate to pick them up before ALL have fallen) so you can imagine how hard it is to find "treasures" out there.....I just wear rubber boots! supposed to rain for the next few days, but hopefully I will be able to get it cleaned up.

Wow!!! How exciting...he just grabbed "little blue dog", complete with his conehead on! he didn't really play bit him a bit, and okay, so the photo is staged (mom took off collar, and put little blue dog beside him) but it was so exciting to see him grab it all on his own!

Note the nice "area rug" in the kitchen..rugs/runners everywhere

Well Uncle Bruce left last night, sees he couldn't handle Prozack's whining (now he knows how I feel)!! This morning while we were having a pee, we thought we saw/heard a dog, Nikey nearly ripped my arm out, now I know why I keep leash on even in backyard!

Been reading the ortho site (links) and they have said I must keep conehead on, the risk of getting/licking stiches is too high...so now he is walking around (well hardly) pouting!!!!

My laptop isn't working so well, so he is out here with me in the kitchen watching me type. Soon it will be time to make spaghetti!

Well last night was another long one! Kept his conehead on (he is starting to want to lick), but he was up at 4:30 to go outside! Then is sister was up at 6:30 (usual time) for breakie, he ate lots seems good, loves to go outside even if it,s only for a pee. Uncle Bruce has dropped by and has gone back out shopping, when he comes back, mom will take Proz for a much needed long walk, she is still driving us crazy with her barking. Good Lord, she is waiting at the front door for Uncle Bruce just like she does at cottage. He is resting peacefully on bed in kitchen with mom (maybe I can get some dishes done?

Well, took Proz for a short walk (freezing/raining)....she enjoyed, but couldn't wait to get back to Uncle Bruce...of course Uncle Bruce has decided it is much too boring here, and has gone home. He promised to come back tomorrow.. Proz is barking at "flyer guy" or someone/thing.

Anyways, bruce looked at Nikey's leg, and now it is all red...crap thought he might be licking, but I seem to remember it might be normal...have posted to orthodogs for feedback.

He still has his pain patches on...vet tech said I would have to come back in 3 days so they could take off, but I have not heard anything since (that was a phone call the night of surgery). So I figure I will take off saturday or sunday...they look like they might be getting itchy.
